Sewing machine has a pattern selector which includes a plate mounted on the machine frame and having a number of pattern indicators, pattern identifying devices which identify the pattern indicators at the time of pattern selection. Selector has a single switch device operable manually for selective identification of any one of the pattern indicators with the aid of the pattern indicating device as well as pattern selection control circuit actuable by the selective operation of the switch device for the purpose of a read-out of pattern data from the memory of the sewing machine. Switch device may include a number of push-buttons and an electric switch for rendering effective a selected pattern. Pattern indicator sare arranged in columns each of which is associated with a push-button.
