The heavy duty vacuum cleaner for wet and dry cleaning has a first compartment connected to the outside atmosphere. This compartment contains a motorised fan unit. Connected to the first compartment by an opening is a second compartment which contains a tank with a suction hose outside it. The opening (34a) can be alternately connected to the suction or pressure side (52, 60) of the motorised fan unit (28). The suction hose (16) leads into the tank (18) by means of a return valve (36, 38) opening into the direction of the flow. An additional pipe (40) leads outwards from the bottom (46) of the tank (18).
