Anticancer cis-platinum complexes and salts - with nitrogen-contg. polymers and oligomers, e.g. poly-phosphazene derivs.

New cis-complexes or cis-salts consist of a planar quadratic platinum cpd. and a nitrogen-contg. oligomer or polymer. Pref. complexes or salts are those in which the platinum cpd. is ahaloplatinate (esp. chloroplatinate) and the polymer or oligomer is a polyphosphazene of formula (I), (II) or (III) (in which n is the degree of polymerisation and R is alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or halogen): The materials are anticancer agents with fewer toxic side effects (e.g. less kidney damage) than the parent Pt (II) cpds. Complexing with the N-contg. oligomer or polymer reduces toxicity without affecting anticancer activity. Specific complexes include cis-dichloro octakis(methylamino)-cyclotetraphosphazene-N,N" platinum (II).
