In order to fix objects to the surface of the concrete (1) a hole (2) is drilled with a shallow recess around the mouth of the hollow. A dowel (4) with circumferential ribs (3) is inserted in the hole (2) and is held in a central position by the flange (5) which fits in the recess. A hard setting cement is then injected through a hole (7) in the flange (5). The cement completely fills the space between dowel (4) and hole (2) and when it has set retains the dowel (4). The dowel (4) is provided with a number of equally spaced longitudinal ribs (10) which are deformed by the thread of the fixing screw and hold it in place.
