The DC traction control for underwater craft has electronic switching for quietness and simplicity. The speed of the motors is also regulated by the switching connecting the motors to select series resistances. For normal running, regenerative braking is used. For emergency stopping, the motors are set in series with the supply and with the control resistances so that the generated current is dissipated in the resistances, with the fields of the motors reversed.
