<p>1496158 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE-ALPINE MONTAN AG 17 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54471/74 Heading B3F In a plant in which a cast strand 9 is bent from the vertical to the horizontal where there is secondary cooling, cooling-water spray 12 is applied to fall on to upper rollers 8 where the strand is horizontal, while, to prevent or lessen water falling on to the hot strand 9, channels 20, 21, 22 ... extend across the strand path, e.g. at least between alternate pairs of rollers as shown in Fig. 1. The channels 20, 21, 22 ... have outlet openings 29, Fig. 2 at their ends. As shown in Fig. 2, the rollers 8 may each comprise three lengths extending between bearing blocks 7. Carriers 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>11</SP>... for the blocks 7 each comprise two side plates 31, 32 and a base plate 33 forming a channel 35. These channels cover the spaces adjacent the rollerlength ends. Narrow channels 30 supported on the transverse channels 20 collect water flowing off the side plates 31, 32. The longitudinal channels 35 between the side plates communicate with the transverse channels 20, where they cross them, by way of drains (36).</p> |
