Process for the synthesis of tetradecahydroundecaborate compounds

Tetradecahydroundecaborate compounds, MB11H14, wherein M represents a monovalent cation are prepared by the reaction of the corresponding octahydroborate compounds, MB3H8, with boron trifluoride. The reaction is carried out at a temperature of 100 DEG C. to 120 DEG C., preferably in an inert solvent medium.
