<p>The S concn. in physical wash fluids, used to remove volatile S cpds., e.g. H2S, SO2, COS and/or mercaptans, from gases, esp. coal gasification prods. is reduced by contact with a corresponding concn. of cyanide and removal of the thiocyanate formed. Process is used for prepn. of H2 for NH3 synthesis or hydrogenation, or of CO/H2 mixts. for methanol or Fischer-Tropf synthesis. Deposition of elementary S, formed by reaction of H2S and SO2, causing blockage of pipes, etc. when the regenerated wash fluid is cooled to wash temp. is prevented.</p> |
