At the entry into the rotating tube forming the twister of the false-twist member, a covering thread is supplied at an angle of at least 15 DEG , with excess delivery, to a core thread arriving at the friction false-twist unit and assuming a temporarily highly twisted state. The two threads then run jointly over the frictional or working surface of the tube which generates the false twist. The frictional contact between the combined threads and the frictional or working surface of the twister generating the false twist is reduced to less than 50% of the normal value or cancelled completely at least once during each revolution of the tube. This results in a core/covering thread (16), in which the covering thread (28) loops round the core thread (27) alternately in the S-direction (19) and Z-direction (17). Before being wound up, this core/covering thread (16) is subjected to treatment in order to improve its anti-slip property. The frictional or working surface of the tube, which forms the twister of the friction false-twist unit for carrying out the process, has at least one indentation. <IMAGE>
