PURPOSE:To provide a thermosetting polymer blend of excellent flame retardancy by kneading an ethylene/propylene rubber with a chlorosulfonated polyethylene in a specified weight ratio and forming an interpenetrated polymeric network structure comprising separately crosslinked components in the blend. CONSTITUTION:60-95wt.% ethylene/propylene rubber (e.g. ethylene/propylene/ diene terpolymer) is kneaded with 40-5wt.% chlorosulfonated polyethylene and sulfur, lead oxide and other necessary additives, and the obtained mixture is vulcanized and molded to obtain, e.g. a sheet. In this way, a molding having an interpenetrated polymeric network structure comprising a sulfur-crosslinked ethylene/propylene rubber and a lead oxide-crosslinked chlorosulfonated polyethylene, excellent in flame retardancy, electrical properties, tensile strength, etc., and suited for, e.g. an insulator for wires and cables, can be obtained. |
