Between the fuse terminals (20, 84) is provided an electric path with a preset rated current strength and interruption capacity. It includes also a fusible element. A second electric path shunts at least a part of the first one and has an element (46) with a fusible electric path with a preset peak current and specified energy, these parameters being much greater than similar parameters of the fusible element. The first electric path corresponds to a long-term, possibly harmful, and relatively low overcurrent. The second electric path responds to this overcurrent in order to break a protected circuit. The two paths both respond to short circuits in their protective function. Preferably the fuse is mounted in a chamber filled with light arc quenching material.
