PRODUCTION OF CARBON FIBER-REINFORCED PLASTIC AND PELLET USING THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of the reinforcing effect of reinforcing fiber in the molding of a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic by using a pellet produced by impregnating a thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin in a carbon fiber mat produced from a pitch fiber spun by a melt-blow process and cutting the impregnated mat into squares having a specific size. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin is impregnated in a mat of carbon fiber produced by carbonizing pitch fiber spun by melt-blow process. The impregnated mat is cut to squares having a side length of <=50mm each and the obtained pellets are pressed into a mold to form a molded article. The formation of the above pellet is preferably carried out as follows. A sheet of a thermoplastic resin or thermosetting resin is laminated to a mat of carbon fiber produced by carbonizing pitch fiber spun by melt-blow process, the laminate is impregnated and the product is cut into squares.
