The support for a working chair consists mainly of a metal centre piece acting as a bridge piece (16) and two front end supports (17). The bridge piece (16) is U-shaped in cross-section and open towards the floor. At the back end of the bridge piece (16), the outer vertical back support tube (13) is connected to the tilt joint (12), which is positioned in the side walls (19, 20) of the bridge piece (16). Underneath the tilt joint (12), the outer tube (13) is compressed to give the appearance in cross-section, of a double-sided half-circle at its end. The compression simultaneously closes the outer tube at its downwards facing ending. The support column consists partly of a pneumatic spring wedged by the bridge piece (16). The tubular position adjusting rods (53, 54) can be tilted to the desired position.
