Plasticized, heat curable resin compsns. are based on (a) an unsaturated ester of formula (I) (in which R1 and R2 are H and/or CH3 and/or CH3 and m and n have an av. value of 1.0-3.0); and (b) 2-60 wt.% (on (I) of a chlorinated paraffin (II) with an av. mol. wt. of 250-900, esp. 300-700 and an av. Cl content of 35-75, esp. 45-65 wt.%, as plasticiser. The plasticised (meth)acrylate compsns. cure with free radical curing agents to give cured prods. with reduced brittleness, increased impact strength, and reduced formation and propagation of hairline caracks e.g. on thermal cycling. The compsns. are esp. useful, with no solvent, for craze-resistant coating of polywood, chipboard, hardboard and plasterboard e.g. in the mfr. of furniture; and in the prodn. of laminates and glass fibre reinforced prods. |
