A flanged joint for thin-walled, large diameter tubes, containers, etc. held together by bolts or rivets, ensures a gas-, fluid-, and dust-tight seal. Between the flanges a distance piece is positioned which forms a gap between the two flanges, and after bolting up, an elastic seal which can be hardened off, is introduced into the gap. A distance piece which may be integral or in segments is placed between the flanges, so as to make a joint either with the inside or the outside edges of the flanges when it is clamped between them by bolts or rivets. In addition to this spacer and its injected mass of sealing material, an additional spacing strip may be forced in between the flanges. The additional strip is conical, or the surface of the flanges is fluted or roughened. The spacer making a seal on the outside edge of the flanges has cutouts which extend around and beyond the centre line of the bolts, leaving ample room for the sealing material. the spacer making contact with the inner edges of the flanges may have a tee-section which lies against the curve between the flange and the body of the pipe or vessel. A silicone rubber is used as the sealing material and when set it has a hardness of >=25 degrees Shore. Arrangement provides a seal on pipe joints, etc. which due to their light weight and large size are easily distorted.
|
