A machine for binding loose leaf books with plastic binders feeds the binders one at a time to the device (44) which uncoils the binder to fit it into the holes in the stack of pages. The plastic binders (10) are formed from strips parallel fingers to correspond to the holes in the pages (50). The binder (10) is then coiled about an axis perpendicular to the finger to form a long cylinder. The coiled binders (10) are fed from a hopper (18) into a slot (26). An oscillating U shaped member (56) cooperates with a second oscillating member (62) so that their combined motion controls the rate at which individual binders (10) drop to the uncoiling device (44). The coiled binders drop vertically down a channel which at the upper end has an opening corresponding to the dia. of a released binder. A guide strip from this opening has a spreader device (36) with grippers passing through spaces between the binder fingers.
