<p>An electronically controlled copying machine having a rotatable workpiece supporting mandrel and a tool holder carriage displaceable axially along a rotatable threaded shaft, is combined with an apparatus for enabling the production of single-start or multi-start threads. Angle sensors or synchros of the apparatus are driven by the rotatable mandrel and by the threaded shaft, through a selected gearing and interconnected electrically to derive a signal representing the relative angular displacement thereof. Speedometer dynamos are also driven by or with the mandrel and the threaded shaft and their signals compared to derive a signal representing their relative angular velocities. A calibration means generates a signal compensating for the initial relative angular displacements of the mandrel and the threaded shaft. The signals are combined in a summator circuit to produce a control voltage which is used to control the angular velocity of the threaded shaft to phase-relate the rotation of the mandrel and the threaded shaft.</p> |
