Finishing agents for porous flammable materials, and fibres consists of an impregnation liq. contg. at least borax, boric acid, water glass, lime water, calcium sulphate, soda, >=1 dispersing agent, a thickener and opt. a salt. Pref. agents contain 10-45% borax, 2-10% boric acid, 5-25% water glass, 1-5% Ca(OH)2, 0.1-10% CaSO4, 1-15% soda, 0.1-5% soap powder or other dispersing agent, 1-5% thickener (esp. a water soluble resin) and 0-10% NaCl. The agents have a simultaneous flameproofing and preservative action and can be used e.g. for the treatment of wood, wood fibre boards, cork panels, pressed paper, mats, floor coverings, fabrics, hard and soft boards, etc.
