A power controller system comprising circuit means for receiving an input power demand signal and producing an output signal derived from a synthesized segmented programmed function of a linear signal representative of the input power demand signal. The output signal is connected to a modulator circuit. Sensing circuit means is provided for determining a signal level and polarity for the modulator. The sensing circuit means senses a parameter of a prime mover. The modulator produces a drive output signal suitable to condition the prime mover to adjust its power in accordance with the input power demand signal.
