The domestic refuse compressor has a compression mechanism of very low height, placed in the bin above the refuse. This incorporates a scissors-linkage system with screwed bar and nut, so that the compression operation consists of a concentration movement, over a long distance and using little power, followed by a compression movement over a short distance and requiring much power. This results in a shorter cycle time and less power requirement.
