1434888 Skylight; window fastenings K GOBEL 4 April 1974 [21 April 1973 14 March 1974] 15087/74 Headings E1J and E2A [Also in Division A5] A skylight 2 is pivoted about horizontal pivots 4 at one end of each of two parallel, horizontal rails 3 which are longitudinally slidable in guides 10 secured to a support frame 1 the skylight overlying the rails and guides when closed. The rail and guide are each channel sectioned, the rail having a roller 8 at one end acting on the guide and the guide carrying a roller 14 acting on the rail. A spring 9 acts between the rail and guide to bias the skylight to slide to an open position. A flange 18 on the skylight carries a roller 19 co-acting with an end 16 of the guide to prevent the spring causing such sliding until the skylight has been pivoted to a partially open position. The skylight has a detent 21 which is engageable in a pawl 24 which is biassed upwardly (e.g. by pneumatic cylinder 30 or a spring) so as to urge the skylight to an open position. The pawl can be held in a lowered, locking position (shown in dashed lines in Fig. 6) by means of a pivotal lever 33 which, when held horizontally, has a catch 36 which prevents the pawl from moving upwardly. The lever 33 is held horizontally by a hollow body 39 engaged between it and a horizontal block 37. The block 37 is pivotal about 38 to release the lock, but it can be held in its horizontal, locking position by a lever 40 for engaging an electromagnetically operable catch 42. The 'body 39 is designed to shatter upon a threshold temperature (e.g. 60‹C) being exceeded to thereby automatically unlock the skylight. |
