Metal (1) is electrodeposited onto conducting granules of a predetermined size and made esp. of the same metal (1). The granules are suspended in an electrolyte contg. metal (1) in soln., and the suspension is fed tangentially into a helical channel wound round an axis of rotation. The internal periphery of the channel forms the anode, whereas the outer periphery of the channel forms the cathode. The size of the granules; the dimensions of the channel; and the speed of the suspension, are selected to provide centrifugal force throwing the granules against the cathode so they form a mobile cathode layer. electric current causes the dissolved metal to be deposited ont he granules, which are then removed from the soln. The pref. plant includes two coaxial tubes, the helical channel being formed in the annular gap between the tubes; the inner tube is the outer tube the cathode. Used for industrial prodn. of Zn, Cu, Ni or Co.
|
