1365666 Oxidation of sulphides INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO OF CANADA Ltd 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21602/73 Heading C1A Sulphide containing materials are oxidized at above the M.Pt. of sulphur in an aqueous slurry with a surfactant added and elemental sulphur produced. The surfactant may be a mixture of water-soluble aliphatic amines, a polyalkylene glycol ester, a polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, a sulphonated aromatic compound or more than one of these. The oxidation is preferably effected by O2 at a partial pressure of at least 3 atmospheres and at a temperature of 120-170‹ C. whilst vigorously agitating the slurry. Other oxidizing agents mentioned are Fe2(SO4)3, FeCl3, Fe(NO3)3 salts of Cr or Mn and Cl2. The material should preferably be able to pass a 325 mesh Tyler screen. A list of suitable minerals is given. |
