HV changeover switch for car ignition - has inbuilt resistor and voltage detector, and is used for fault detection

A high voltage change-over switch connects a high voltage to either a circuit or to a known resistive load. It can be used in the circuit between the ignition coil and the distributor of a car engine. The change-over switch has a sealed insulating material case. It also has four fixed electrical contacts. One of the contacts is connected to the known resistive load. Another contact is connected to a high voltage detector and the other contacts are connected respectively to the coil and the distributor. Two of the contacts are internally interconnected by a wire. A moving bar can be switched by an insulating material arm from one position connecting two of the contacts to another position connecting the other two contacts.
