The roll is composed of a cylindrical core (3) and of an outer tube element (5) connected to said core and, between core and tube element, there is provided, distributed in a uniform manner over the roll circumference, a number of flexible hollow elements (6) which extend over the entire roll width and contain a non-volatile, flowable pressure medium, e.g. compressed air. Between said hollow elements there are located driver elements, e.g. strips (7) extending over the entire roll width, firmly connected to the core. When the rolls are bent, the pressure medium flows into the hollow elements, from their ends to the centre, as a result of which uniform pressure distribution over the entire roll width is ensured. <IMAGE>
