For the purpose of guiding a paper web (7, 9) about a metallic paper guide roller (3) in a contactless fashion, the paper web (7, 9) and the metallic roller (3) are charged electrostatically with the same charge polarity. By means of the repelling effect of the charges which are applied to the paper web (7, 9) and the surface of the metallic roller (3), according to Coulomb's law, according to which charges of the same polarity repel one another, contactless guiding of the web about the roller (3) is possible. <IMAGE>
