<p>The frame of a bedstead is made from tube of rectangular cross-section bent to form two U-shaped members (1, 2). These two U-shaped members (1, 2) are joined together by inserting short lengths of channel section (3) into the ends of the tubes at the joint (5). The dimensions of the channel section (3) are such that it is a tight fit in the tubes on one side of the joint (5). The channel section (3) is secured in the tubes by deforming the edges of the holes (4) in the walls of the tubes (1, 2) which are used for attaching the bed springs. This methos of construction eliminates the need for welding and can be carried out by unskilled labour.</p> |
