摘要
1,100,331. Making casting-moulds; machine tool details. CHLORIDE OVERSEAS Ltd. 25 Feb., 1965 [5 March, 1964], No. 9419/64. Heading B3A, B3B and B3F. For producing thin castings having openings, e.g. grids such as battery electrode grids, a mould comprises two slabs 10, 11 with their adjacent faces, for forming the mould cavity, shaped concavely so as to leave a space which tapers to at least some of their edges, Fig. 2, so that when the melt such as hot lead is introduced, the concave faces expand, the adjacent faces become plane, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the slabs close together to give the mould cavity its required shape. Each slab is produced by bolting the edges to a straining block 12, Fig. 1, with a spacer 15 on it to render a face 16 convex. The bolts pass through holes in the block, Figs. 4, 6 (not shown), and screw into holes in the slab. The face is then machined flat as at 17 and the half-cavity form 18 cut on it before the slab 10 is released to allow the face 17 to resile to the required concave form. The spacer 15 may be placed eccentrically on the block in a keyway 21, Fig. 4 (not shown), or be contoured to produce a required curve form.
