1,043,063. Pipe couplings. W. F. HENDRIKS. Feb. 17, 1965 [Feb. 24, 1964], No. 6775/65. Heading F2G. A pipe coupling comprises a socket member 4 in which is inserted a pipe end 1, 2, an annular, flexible sealing member 5 being interposed between the socket member and the pipe end. The sealing member 5 is of the " cup-leather " type and is held within the socket member 4 by an annular rigid disc 8 which is operatively, pivotally connected to the socket member 4. Fluid pressure in the pipe-line forces the sealing member outwardly of the socket member which outward movement tilts the disc the inner peripheral edges 12, 13 thereof which may be bevelled, thus exerting a gripping action on the pipe end 2 and thus locking the coupling. The coupling is unlocked by the depression of a lip 8a connected to the disc 8 and passing with a clearance through an opening 10 in the socket member. The socket member 4 forms part of a coupling sleeve 14 which is provided with a centring flange 15. In a modification, the disc is pivotally connected to the socket member by a bolt which passes with a clearance through an opening in the wall of the socket member and screw-threadedly engages in a bore in the outer periphery of the disc (Figs. 1, 3, not shown). In the construction of Fig. 3 (not shown) a radially inwardly projecting lip is formed on the socket member diametrically opposite the pivotal connection, a bolt passing with clearance through an opening in the lip and screwthreadedly engaging in a bore in the outer face of the disc to keep the disc in its tilted position.
|
