A perchloroethylene which is stabilised against decomposition in the presence of hydrogen chloride and metals contains 0.1 to 5.0% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of tertiary butyl glycidyl ether of the formula <IMAGE> The butyl glycidyl ether used as stabiliser has an outstandingly good capacity for taking up mineral acids which may be formed on cleaning metals with this solvent. This means that the perchloroethylene stabilised in this way is outstandingly suitable for degreasing metal surfaces, with no corrosion of metal surfaces occurring even after long use. The preparation takes place by adding 0.1 to 5.0% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of the tertiary butyl glycidyl ether to the perchloroethylene. |
