Continuous casting metal plate - in machine using two cooled casting belts which are vibrated to reduce heat transfer

A casting belt is cooled and guided along a circular path in a plant for the continuous casting of metal plates, where two casting belts form the mould. A pressurised cooling liq. (I) is fed onto the reverse sides of the belts via a large number of separate honeycombs. (I) completely fills the honeycombs and the space between the latter and the belts, exerting a hydrostatic pressure on each belt so the latter are kept automatically at a constant distance from the honeycombs; and all buckling or warping of the belts is avoided. The belts surface in contact with the casting is pref. vibrated at 90 degrees to its surface to reduce heat transfer from the casting to the belt, esp. using vibration with frequency (f) 20-500/second and amplitude (h) esp. at the mould inlet of 2 x 10-5 to 2 x 10-4 m, partic, to obtain h.f2>0.5m/sec2. The vibration is pref. produced by magnetic fields, the belts being made of ferromagnetic material. A pref. casting machine uses two moving belts to form a vertical mould. The belts are kept in the exact position required, and the vibration reduces heat transfer from the casting to the belts.
