The bottle handling system for bottling plant includes a transfer station where rows of bottles (2) are pushed two at a time onto a cross conveyor (4) where they may pass an inspection point. The rows are pushed forwards by a pusher device which has a series of concave surfaces with partitions (12) which form paths for the advancing bottles. The two rows are then separated by a longitudinal partition (9) which divides the cross conveyor into two side by side sections. When the force applied to the advancing bottles exceeds a given value, the drive of the feed conveyor is stopped. The partitions (12) can be curved or angled at their ends. The longitudinal partition (9) can be a narrow strip (9a) supported by rods (9b) attached to members (15) well above the bottle tops.
