Magnetic drain plug for wash-basin - is retained by magnets in both closed and open positions

Wash basin (1) has a drain pipe (2) with a cylindrical cage (3) of magnetic corrosion resistant material. The drain plug (10) has a sealing ring (11) which seals on the seat formed by the cage (3). The lower end of the plug (10) is attached to a permanent magnet (6). The base of the cage (3) has a central hole (16) which allows a dumbbell shaped double magnet (5, 7) to slide on the rod (8). The attraction between the upper two magnets (5 and 6) is greater than the attraction between the middle magnet (5) and the cage (3). When the plug is lifted upwards the two magnets (5, 6) stay together until the lowest magnet (7) touches the base of the cage (3) and holds the plug in this position.
