A dividing card for a filing cabinet has a step (4) formed on each of its shorter sides (3) which fits over the edge of the side wall of the filing drawer. Two rectangular slots (12) are cut in the lower edge (2) to receive two plastic tongues (5). The plastic tongues (5) have a U section groove around three sides. The edges of the slots (12) fit inside these U section grooves when the tongues (5) are glued to the card (1). The lower ends of the tongues are bent to a zig-zag cross-section. The base of the filing drawer has two parallel rows of transverse slots which receive the tongues (5). The zig-zag cross-section retains the cards so that they cannot be accidentally pulled out of the drawer.
