Roller for fish capture has a drum that runs about a main shaft. A line-guide swivels about an axis wich is fixed w.r.t. a body which carries a drum drive. There is a first arrangement of control mechanisms (74-80) for swivelling the line-guide (58) from a first position, which allows the line to be moved onto the drum (22), and into a second position, which allows the line to be unwound on casting. There is a second arrangement of control mechanisms (96) for swivelling the line guide (58) from the second into the first position. In this case, the drum (22) is moved with a secondary motion which ensures a suitable winding of the line onto the drum. This secondary motion is a rotary motion of the drum (22).
