IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF GLASS WHEREIN HOT METAL MOLDS ARE PROVIDED WITH A SOLID FILM LUBRIFICANT LAYER

The moulding is effected by contact with the surface of a blowing mould without relative rotation between the glass and the moulds. Specifically one of the surfaces defining the moulding cavity and forming the glass is a solid layer consisting of a solid lubricant dispersed in an organopolysiloxane as binder, and is coated with a solid layer consisting of (i) non-colloidal graphite in sufficient amt. to provide a good demoulding of the glass wrt. the layer, (ii) polysiloxane and (iii) =15 wt% of a hardener for the siloxane. The coating provides improved surface protection and lubrication during glass moulding while not contributing to the atmospheric pollution.
