<p>1,032,089. Cutting vegetables &c. E. V. BLOOMQUIST and G. E. BLOOMQUIST. March 15, 1965, No. 10963/65. Heading A4C. A machine for slicing, chipping or cubing vegetables or other solids includes a rotary cutter head 13, the body 29 of which is bored axially to receive a knife assembly 42 secured therein with a plurality of laterally spaced, radial knives 49 extending outwardly beyond the peripheral surface 32 of the head 13. The knife assembly 42 is located forward of the leading edge 33 of a cavity 31 formed in the head 13 which head is also fitted adjacent the cavity training edge 34 with a tangential knife 38 having a cutting edge 39 extending axially of the head 13 and radially outwardly of the peripheral surface 32. The machine includes a feed guide trough 23 with a forward bottom edge 28 serving as a counter knife and provided at its open forward end 21 with vertically spaced horizontal knives or wires 61. In operation, material such as a potato 22 is manually advanced by a pusher 64 through the fixed knives 61 and into contact with the surface 32 of the rotating cutter head 13 which first by means of the radial knives 49 makes vertical incisions in the potato end and then by the trailing knife 38 severs the potato end whereby cut cubes are received in the cavity 31 to subsequently fall therefrom into a receiving pan. Slices or strips may be formed by removing certain of the various knives. In an alternative feed device (Fig. 5, not shown) potatoes are fed intermittently in synchronism with rotation of the cutter head 13 by means of an endless belt 68 bearing on top of the potatoes in the feed trough 23, the belt 68 being driven by a pawl 74 and ratchet 72 mechanism linked by a crank mechanism 76, 77 to the drive shaft 12 of the cutter head 13.</p> |
