PURPOSE:To make a rolling load small and to reduce surface ruggedness and wear of a work roll by forming many recessed parts on the surface of a rolling work roll and performing rolling with a fluid being shut in the recessed parts. CONSTITUTION:Many spherical recessed parts 6 are formed on the surface of work rolls 1, 2. A rolled stock 01 is rolled while filling the parts 6 with a fluid 5 from nozzles 3, 4. In a contact arc (c), the fluid 5 in the parts 6 generates a pressure being enough to plastically deform the stock 01 to support the stock 01 and to form a fluid boundary film. As an area ratio of bounding frictional region is smaller, a frictional shearing stress is made to be smaller and the parts 6 effectively act. Lubricating oil, a mixture of water and lubricating oil, water, and a fused salt are used as the fluid 5. A rolling load is reduced and a rolling mill is miniaturized because friction coefficient during rolling is reduced; surface ruggedness and wear of the rolls 1, 2 are also reduced. |
