1450916 Corrosion-inhibiting compositions ROHM & HAAS CO 24 Sept 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 44602/73 Heading C3P Pigmented corrosion-inhibiting coating compositions comprise an aqueous latex containing (A) a synthetic or natural film-forming polymer dispersed therein, the polymer being waterinsoluble at a pH of from 3 to 11 and when containing carboxylic acid units being derived from a monomer charge containing from 0À5 to 5% by weight of carboxylic acid monomer and (B) dissolved in the aqueous system a watersoluble complex consisting of a polyvalent transition metal cation, a corrosion-inhibiting anion and a volatile complexing component, such that upon evaporation of the latter component the metal cation and corrosion-inhibiting anion form a water-insoluble corrosion-inhibiting compound, the composition containing 0À2 to 20 millimoles of complex per mole of water. In examples the polymer is an ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate/methacrylic acid copolymer; the complex is zinc ammonium carbonate; and the pigment comprises titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and optionally also lampblack and calcium carbonate. Other components used include dispersing and wetting agents, defoamers, antifreeze agents, fungicides, hydroxyethylcellulose, lead silico chromate and mica. |
