The hot water supply system has a hot water tank (1) with a heating coil (3) around it, with connection (4, 5) for a supply from the boiler. The discharge line (6) starts from an inverted U-shaped tube (6a) housing an temperature sensing element (10) controlling a relay unit (11) which operates the boiler burner. The end is controlled by a ball (8) inside a cage (7). As soon as the temperature of the water in the tank reaches a required upper level, the element (10) shuts off the burner. When a small quantity of water is drawn off, the flow is insufficient to operate the device or pull the valve from its seat (6b), but instead flows through a small hole (9) in the discharge line (6). A larger flow draws the ball valve from its seat and also operates the burner controller (10).
