The pivot fitting for a window includes a spring-loaded axially movable stop (16) which limits the degree of window opening. The stop can be rotated half a turn to provide two alternative positions in which the window pivots nominally for ventilation and through 180 deg. for cleaning respectively. The fitting has an inset metal plate (37) engaging the stop (16), and locks the sash in either open position. The stop (16) is of round section with diametrically opposed flat (16a) and bevelled faces (23) and engages alternative diametrically opposed slots in the inset (37). The stop may be rotated by a toothed wheel (29) with differential colouring indicating its station.
