PURPOSE: To join surely and quickly parts of micro dimensions by supporting the output end of an optical fiber against the opening so that a diverging laser beam from the optical fiber is projected to a workpiece. CONSTITUTION: A laser beam is inputted by a coupler 16 into the input end of an optical fiber 14. Then, a workpiece 50, 52 is engaged with a tool 18 and pressurized, with spot welding, brazing, etc., performed by the laser beam. The tool 18 to be engaged is provided with a housing 40 having an opening 58. Then, the output end 30 of the optical fiber 14 is supported by a supporting member 42 against the opening 58, in the manner that the output end 30 of the laser beam diverging from the optical fiber 14 is projected onto the workpiece 50, 52. Consequently, damage by laser joining can be avoided against the workpiece or the ambient materials. |
