Semiconductor switchgear unit with pressure tight housing - includes power semiconductors and heat sink in module supplied with coolant from external reservoir

The switchgear is intended pref. for deep mining purposes and contains thyristors etc. in a pressure-tight housing. Such switchgear is suitably used for driving motors in mine galleries. The power thyristors (7) form a module with a heat sink (2-4). This module is connected by inlet and outlet lines (5, 6) to an external reservoir for coolant circulation. Pref. the heat sink has channels for the coolant circulation. Heat exchange pipes (6) with the coolant may be immersed in a heat transfer medium (3). The inlet and outlet lines may be firmly secured to the pressure-tight housing, and connecting fittings may be used for releasable coupling.
