<p>The swashplate type IC engine has piston rods which bear axially on the swashplate and are carried in thrust and journal ball bearings. A toothed ring coupling transmits torque to the shaft. Gas flow to and from the cylinders is controlled by ported disc valves on stub spindles in the cylinder cover plate, and rotated at half engine speed by teeth on a spigot from the timing head. This is bolted to the engine casing and houses a manifold plate with half-ring slots.</p> |
