The appts. comprises a unit consisting of a horizontal conveyor onto which previously sorted pieces of meat all of one quality are deposited, and a scraper which removes the pieces from the discharge end of the conveyor and drops them into a storage tray below having a sheet metal bottom. An extractor, esp. a conveyor, removes the lowest layer of meat from this storage tray through an outlet slit at the end. Used for receiving meat directly from a slaughter house and dispensing it again on the 'first in first out' principle. The method ensures that the pieces of meat are all used correctly in turn and obviates the stacking of large quantities one above another, followed by removal of the newest piece from the top.
