Variable geometry snow-grip for tyre - has tilting supports with retraction control in tread

The variable geometry snow grip has a tilting support plates (37) spaced in recesses about the tyre tread, with pairs of snow spikes (35) on each plate. The plates are tilted up by a servo mechanism to protrude the spikes clear of the tread. The plates are linked to cable servos for the tilt action. The recesses are compact, with each recess replacing a block in the tread. The spikes are rapidly extended or retracted so that different roads can be covered without having to remove chain grips.
