1535896 Production of pitch and asphalt MOBIL OIL CORP 16 Feb 1977 [18 Feb 1976] 06463/77 Heading C5E A slurry of scrap rubber in a thermally stable petroleum fraction having a 5% boiling point within the range 450-1100‹ F. is heated at 350-850‹ F. to produce a homogeneous composition having a soft pitch like consistency at - 20‹ F. to 200‹ F. 0À5 to 50 parts by weight of petroleum fraction (e.g. a Thermofor or Fluid catalytic cracking bottoms, heavy cycle oil, petroleum residuum, propane-deasphalted tar or coker gas oil) can be used per part of scrap rubber. The scrap rubber can be natural or synthetic and can be reclaimed rubber from tyres and inner tubes. Synthetic asphalt can be produced by incorporating coal, solvent refined coal, petroleum tar or wood into the homogeneous pitch or into the slurry to be treated. |
