The safety ski binding assembly includes a hinged clamp bracket (11) acted on by a compression coil spring (23). The clamp housing also locates the pivot shaft (39) of a brake lever (40). When a boot is located in the clamp, the brake lever is held in its inactive position by a sliding catch bracket (16). When the ski boot is removed from the clamp, a hinged angle bracket (21) is released by the boot sole. This in turn allows the catch bracket (16) to be pushed by a spring (28) until the locking arm on the brake lever pivot is released. A torsion spring (41) then rotates the brake arm to its active position.
