Hand held knife with retractable blade - has finger operated control to move blade carrier into operating position against spring action

The hand-held knife with retractable and replaceable blade enables the blade holder (5) to be extended into its operating position against the action of a return spring (14). This is achieved by using a hand-operated control element on the top leading end of the knife. The control element comprises e.g. a two-armed lever (19) whose one arm interacts with the blade carrier (5) and whose other arm is moved by hand. Alternatively, it consists of an eccentric disc or a slide with an inclined or a rectangular disc mounted eccentrically on a shaft. The design facilitates the extension and retraction of the blade carrier.
