The present invention provides a rectangular checker brick for a horizontal regenerator having a plurality of longitudinally extending spacer ribs said brick having for a connection to an adjacent brick in the horizontal direction parallel to its longitudinal sides meshing means in longitudinal sides thereof adapted to engage in the longitudinal sides of displaced adjacent checker bricks and for a connection to adjacent checker bricks in the vertical direction, a plurality groove/tongue-arrangements at the spacer ribs or said adjacent the checker brick for fixing with the adjacent checker bricks above or below said checker brick in a displaced manner. The present invention also provides checker work in said horizontal regenerator containing said bricks.
